FAQs

What is placenta encapsulation?

Placentophagy is when the birthing person consumes their placenta by eating it raw, cooked, capsulated, or drinking its broth.

How many capsules will I receive?

The amount of capsules are based on the size and services of the placenta. On average a person’s placenta can be between 80- 100 capsules.

Are there situations why it would be unsafe to consume my placenta?

Here are a few situations where I would not be able to process your placenta.

  • If the placenta is sent to pathology.

  • If there is a uterine infection.

  • If the placenta is improperly stored.

  • If the mother smoked during pregnancy.

  • If the baby was born with fever and infection.

I want to encapsulate my placenta, but I am not ready. Can I freeze it?

You can keep your placenta stored in the freezer for up to six months. Make sure it is kept in the two 2-gallon freezer bags.

If financial hardship is a reason why you cannot encapsulate right away, please email me at hello@bumpnbeyond.org for options.

What are some benefits to get my placenta encapsulated?

The placenta is full of vitamins, minerals, and hormones to help aid in the postpartum birthing person's recovery. Some benefits are:

  • Increase general energy

  • Allow a quicker return to health after birth

  • Increase production of breast milk

Can I get my placenta encapsulated if I have a cesarean?

Absolutely! As long as your placenta doesn’t go to pathology or has signs of infection you can still get your placenta encapsulated. I always recommend clients to write down placenta encapsulation on their birth plan. So that everyone knows the birthing person’s wishes.

I don’t want to consume my placenta, are there other options?

Yes! We have do a Tree of Life package where you can have your placenta dehydrated and stored in a jar. You’ll also receive a print of the placenta and umbilical cord keepsake. This is perfect for those who either don’t want to consume the placenta or something came up where it’s no longer an option to encapsulate.

How do I store my placenta after birth?

Once you have given birth, have someone store the placenta in an ice chest with ice. Do not leave the placenta out longer than 4 hours!

If you don’t have an ice chest you can rent one out for $5. I will then pick up the placenta from the birthing location.

How and when to provide payment?

Payment is due at checkout. Once paid, you’ll be directed to the intake form where I’ll get more in depth birthing information. If financial hardship is a barrier please email me at hello@bumpnbeyond.org.
